LVE BYOB Spotlight Series: Red Pig Asian Kitchen

Situated just south of us at Broadway and Oakdale, Red Pig Asian Kitchen offers a lovely Spring-y atmosphere, traditional Thai food and yummy Asian fusion cuisine. The name “Red Pig” comes from a well-known dish in Thailand called “Moo Dang” which happens to be one of their signature dishes. We’re also going to start using this as an expression of excitement and approval: “Moo Dang, can’t wait!” “Moo Dang, that wine is good.”

Food
The menu has all of your Thai favorites with an insanely friendly price tag. We recommend mixing and matching a few dishes – and definitely sharing! From soups, curries and a plethora of starters to fried rice, noodle dishes and another plethora of specials, it can be hard to decide on one.

Coming hungry is not a problem because we didn’t have to wait long at all before our food came out. Everything looked and tasted so fresh. We ordered Mongolian Beef, Chicken Pineapple Fried Rice, Moo Dang (had to – did not disappoint!) and Crab Rangoons…which were some of the best we’ve ever had. The fried rice was full of juicy pieces of white meat, as if the unfortunate chicken soul had just been clucking around in the back kitchen.

Wine
Thai cuisine always goes well with crisp, aromatic white wines (especially those with a hint of sweetness!) and low-alcohol reds. We had a smooth Grenache/Syrah blend from southern France and a tangy, slightly herbaceous Vermentino (Italian grape) from California. Other reds that would have worked well: Gamay, Pinot Noir, Blaufrankisch, and Cinsault.  Other whites that would have worked well: Sauvignon Blanc from France (Sancerre), Riesling, and Grüner Veltliner. Oh and obviously, ROSÉS!

The restaurant space is very intimate, filled with smaller tables that make it a perfect place for a casual date night or evening out with buddies. They also do online orders and carry out if you just want to stay in and enjoy wonderful Thai cuisine while watching Orange Is the New Black.

In conclusion, Moo Dang, get over there stat!
